Ride safety and baggage rules

Luggage Policy

OUCAB allows reasonable personal luggage as long as it fits safely in the vehicle and does not block seats, exits, mirrors, or the driver's ability to operate the ride safely.

Updated 29 March 2026Effective 29 March 2026Safe, practical luggage guidelines

If you are traveling with extra bags, airport luggage, or items that require boot space, select a larger vehicle during booking so the driver can arrive prepared.

Section

Allowed luggage

Ordinary travel bags are welcome when they can be placed safely without damaging the vehicle or inconveniencing other riders.

  • Backpacks, handbags, laptop bags, school bags, and small shopping bags.
  • Cabin-size suitcases, medium suitcases, duffel bags, and soft travel bags.
  • Airport luggage, office bags, and event baggage that fits in the boot or cabin without obstructing space.

For multi-bag trips, please mention the approximate number of bags while booking so the platform can match you with the right vehicle category.

Section

Vehicle-wise luggage limits

These are practical guidance limits, not airline-style baggage rules. The key requirement is safe fit and safe handling.

Vehicle typeRecommended luggage
Bike / two-wheelerOne backpack or handbag up to about 7 kg; no bulky hard-case luggage
Auto-rickshawOne medium bag or two small bags that fit beside the passenger safely
Hatchback / SedanUp to 2 medium bags or 1 large + 1 cabin bag, subject to boot space
SUV / XL / OutstationUp to 4 bags, including large suitcases, if they fit in the boot and do not block seating

As a general check, a bag should be easy to lift, should not exceed the vehicle's safe storage space, and should not force another passenger to sit uncomfortably.

Section

Extra charges and larger vehicles

If your luggage requires a bigger vehicle, an additional stop, or special handling, the fare may change before the ride starts.

Additional charges may apply when your luggage volume exceeds the capacity of the selected vehicle or when the driver needs to assist with loading and unloading unusually large or heavy items.

  • The app may suggest an XL, SUV, or outstation vehicle when luggage details indicate a larger fit is needed.
  • If the driver has to rearrange the cabin or boot to accommodate extra baggage, a luggage surcharge may be shown before confirmation.
  • The driver may refuse the trip if the bags do not fit safely, even after payment, and support will review the booking.

Section

Restricted items

Some items are never allowed because they can damage the vehicle, create a health risk, or violate applicable law.

  • Explosives, fireworks, flammable liquids, gas cylinders, and other hazardous materials.
  • Weapons, sharp objects carried without lawful reason, illegal substances, and contraband.
  • Open food containers, leaking liquids, wet paint, strong-smelling chemicals, or anything that can stain upholstery.
  • Live animals unless the trip type, vehicle type, and local rules specifically allow it and the driver has agreed in advance.

If a restricted item is discovered during pickup or transit, the ride may be stopped and the issue may be reported to support or to local authorities where required by law.

Section

Driver rights to refuse

Drivers may refuse luggage that is unsafe, unbooked, or materially different from what was declared during booking.

A driver can decline to begin or continue a trip if the luggage would make the ride unsafe, would damage the vehicle, exceeds the booked category, or is likely to block mirrors, seat belts, exits, or emergency access.

  • If you need to travel with boxes, sports equipment, musical instruments, or other irregular items, please mention them in advance.
  • If a driver refuses due to a genuine safety concern, the cancellation may be treated as rider-side if the bag details were misdeclared.
  • Where the driver refuses for an error caused by OUCAB or by inaccurate vehicle matching, support may waive the charge and rematch the ride.
